Because service work is vital to the spiritual growth and maintenance to those of us in the fellowship, the Area 33 Treatment Facilities Committee hopes that anyone interested in service work can find something to do to help the still suffering alcoholic. Here are some suggestions on how to get involved in service work at the treatment facility level.
1.)Being a temporary contact.
Sign up as a Bridging the Gap volunteer. You can do this online (see the link on the main page under "Volunteer for Temporary Contacts"). When a patient is released and asks to be contacted, we find out what area they will be moving to. We then find a volunteer who lives in that area. The volunteer is asked to contact the patient. More information on what to do when contacting a patient is available on the "What AA Does And Does Not Do. " link.
2.) Take meetings into treatment centers.
We are currently supporting several treatment facilities. If you are interested in taking a panel meeting into a facility, please read the link "Where Are Treatment Meetings Being Held".
3.) Start a Bridging the Gap meeting in a treatment facility in your district.
Anyone can start taking meetings into treatment facilities. Your group can sponsor a facility or volunteers can take meeting in on a rotational basis. More information can be found in the AA pamphlet "AA In Treatment Facilities", "Bridging the Gap", and the AA Guidelines leaflet on treatment facilities committee. It is suggested that you contact someone from the Area 33 Treatment Committee to help you get started.
4.) Volunteer as a District Treatment Facility Chairperson.
This basically involved being a liaison between the Area Treatment Facility Committee and your district. Your responsibilities would include attending the area treatment meetings and taking the information back to your district meeting. You would also be encouraged to pass the information on to the GSR's in your district and ask them to pass the information on to the group members. More information is available in the pamphlet listed above.
5.)Volunteer as a Group Treatment Facility Chairperson.
This position involves informing the members of your home group to the activities of the treatment committees at the district and area level. Some groups sponsor a facility an take meetings into treatment facilities on a rotational basis. It also involves introducing patients newly released from treatment facilities to the fellowship.
