We have often heard people say that they felt "safe" while in treatment. Being insulated
from the outside world made it much easier to stay sober. But we all had to come to the
realization that we couldn't live in that bubble forever and when we were released, we
again had to deal with the realities of life.
As many of you know, one of the more "slippery" places in the journey to sobriety is between
the door of the facility and the nearest A.A. meeting. Experience has shown us that when a
person gets to a meeting as soon as they are released, the chance of permanent recovery increases
dramatically.
Some of us can tell you that even though we heard of A.A. in treatment, we were not sure how to
go about getting to a meeting, what to expect when we get there or if we even wanted to go. In
order to help people make the transition from treatment to A.A. meeting, A.A. members volunteer
to introduce patients to the fellowship. Assisting in that transition is "Bridging the Gap".
